Munch and her wished for Friend

by Kirstie Ferrett

Once upon a Munch Time there was a cow called Munch who lived on a small farm called Greenacres. Munch spent her days grazing on the crunchy green grass, in a lovely field with tall shady trees on one side and small pond in the middle.

She shared her field with two ducks called Waddle and Toddle (because of the funny way they walked with their webbed feet) and two sheep called Wurly and Curly (because of their long wavy haired coats of wool). The ducks would chase each other around the field and quack excitedly to one another whilst the sheep would baa and jump around. They would always let Munch join in with their games but she really wanted to have a special friend of her own that looked like her and mooooooed like her.

One lovely clear starry night Waddle, Toddle, Wurly, Curly and Munch were all sitting round the pond, Looking round at the others Munch felt a little bit sad and one large tear slid down her cheek.

"What's the matter Munch" they asked and she told them all about her wish for her own special friend.

Once they realised it was making her sad they all decided to try and help her wish come true. So they sat in a circle, held each others feathers and hooves and tightly closed their eyes (because we all know wishes can only be properly made with your eyes closed!).
Altogether they quacked, baaahed and moooooed,

"We Wish, We Wish,
With All Our Might,
Make Munch A Special Friend Tonight"

Nothing happened so they tried again, but louder this time. (Can you help by saying it with them).

"WE WISH, WE WISH,
WITH ALL OUR MIGHT,
MAKE MUNCH A SPECIAL FRIEND TONIGHT."

They were all making such a racket that the birds in the trees told them to sshhhhh, as they were trying to get some sleep. They thought they'd better be quiet after that and they nodded off to sleep themselves.

What they didn't know was that as all of their different animal sounds drifted up into the night sky, taking the wish with them, a magic shooting star WOOOOOSSSHHHED overhead. It caught all their wishes and decided to make them come true but because there was quacks and baa's and moo's it got a little confused…

The next morning Munch awoke to a very strange noise.

"Quamooobaa" "Quamooobaa"

Munch had never heard a noise like it. She looked around the field and could not believe what she saw.
A very strange animal came waddling towards her. As it got closer she could see it had the webbed feet of a duck, the curly haired coat of a sheep and a head that looked a lot like hers.

As the creature reached Munch it let out an extra loud "Quamooobaa" and she suddenly realised it was her wish come true from the night before but as the wishes had been quacked, bashed and mooed they had all got mixed up.

Munch was scared as the creature in front of her looked and sounded so different. She started to back away but forgot to look where she was going. She slipped in a muddy puddle near the edge of the pond and…
CRASH!…SPLASH!…SPLOSH!…She fell into the water and landed on her back with her four legs waggling about in the air.

The water was not very deep where she landed but it was very muddy.

"HELP! HELP!" she shouted, "I'm stuck and I can't get out".

As quick as a flash the strange new creature waddled over. It began to walk out to where Munch was but because it had webbed feet it was able to walk on the mud without getting stuck. When it reached Munch she was able to grab onto its long wooly sheep's coat. it then began to heave and pull…and pull and heave…until there was a loud SQUELCH and POP!! She was free of the mud and clambered out of the pond.

Munch and the creature looked at each other, they were both wet and muddy and looked very funny. They started to smile at each other and then started to laugh. Munch realised it was not a strange looking creature anymore. She had been saved by her new special wished for friend.

From that moment on Munch understood that you don't have to look or sound like each other to become good friends, you just have to help and care about each other. She named her new friend Scrunch as all the wishes had got scrunched together.

So now Toddle, Waddle, Wurly, Curly, Scrunch and Munch all enjoy playing together in their field and they were friends happily ever after.
